What is Penile Girth?
The penile girth involves the circumference or thickness of the penile shaft and glans (head of the penis – see separate procedure titled, ‘Penile Glans -or head of Penis- Enlargement for more details). The penis has two states, the flaccid (or soft), and the erect (or firm). The penile shaft and glans girth typically increase dramatically from the flaccid to erect states. The normal range of the flaccid girth or circumference is 3.5 to 4.5 inches. The normal range for the erect girth or circumference is 4.5 to 5 inches, plus or minus a quarter inch.
What is Penile Head Enhancement?
The Penile Glans is also called the ‘Head of the Penis’. We prefer to use the term ‘glans’. The Glans is a vascular structure, very similar to the internal parts of the shaft. During erections the shaft fills with blood and become firm, just like the rest of the penis.
The degree of change with a glans treatment, while being noticeably larger, may not exactly match the shaft. However even a ½” increase in glans size will help to balance a larger increase in shaft size.
Most patients want to have a glans that is proportional to the increased size of the shaft. Patients who achieve significant increases in girth without proportionate glans enlargement may notice the glans looks small next to the now larger shaft.
Due to this potential visual appearance, we recommend that most patients undergo simultaneous Shaft and Glans Enhancement, to achieve balance and symmetry. Of course some patients may naturally have a large glans and others may be satisfied with a shaft-only treatment. There is no “one-size-fits-all” and we work with patients to achieve their individual goals.
Our specialists have performed many Penile Glans Enlargement procedures and has concluded that there are only moderate gains even after several treatments, resulting in an increase in girth size (circumference) ranging from ½ to 1 inch.
How does the procedure work?
Patients are numbed using a pudendal nerve block, along with numbing cream applied to the shaft, glans, or scrotum. Prior to numbing, patient is carefully cleaned with betadine and alcohol. In the procedure we are using a permanent filler, used to increase collagen over time. The procedure can take 60-90 minutes. Patients must be prepared to refrain from sexual activity for 21-30 days because we want the filler to settle without being manipulated by sexual intercourse or ejaculation.
We do recommend the P shot during this procedure. The P shot is where we take your blood, or use regenerative cellular medicine, and inject it into the penis. This will increase length due to the increase in blood flow to the penis by the new blood vessels being formed with the growth factors in the plasma. Non surgical Penis Enhancement Methods
Vacuum Pumps – Medical grade Vacuum pumps are FDA approved for temporary treatment of erectile dysfunction and provide a temporary erection for men with underlying medical problems. Many “over-the-counter” pumps are available that perform the same function. While prolonged pumping in healthy men can provide a small, temporary increase in penis size over normal, the results will only last for a few hours at most. There is little evidence to suggest the pumping will result in permanent increases in penis size.
Pills/Lotions – Prescription medications such as Viagra or Cialis can assist with providing a normal erection in men with erectile dysfunction however they will not provide an increase in size. Over-the-Counter pills will NOT cause the penis to increase in size. Most of the effects of these medications are unproven and in some cases can cause problems with blood pressure and other medical illnesses and should be used with caution.
Manual Stretching Exercises – commonly known as Jelqing, have been around for many years. While there are some empirical data to suggest the technique works, scientific studies have yet to prove the same.
Extenders/Stretchers – Extenders can include mechanical stretching devices and “hangers”, devices applied to the penis that are then attached to a weight and worn from minutes to hours (with breaks). Mechanical extenders have some scientific studies to support growth in penis length up to ½” however this involved wearing the extender for 6 hours a day for several months and extenders cannot be worn and camouflaged under clothing.
